I’ve been fishing since I was a kid, learning from my greatest mentor—my grandpa. Those early lessons built the foundation of patience, skill, and passion that have driven me ever since. Fishing has been a lifelong journey, and today I’m proud to share that knowledge with others.
Based in Dayton, Ohio, I’ve spent decades fishing local lakes, rivers, and reservoirs, helping anglers of all levels catch species like largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, catfish, carp, crappie, musky, northern pike, walleye and saugeye. My approach goes beyond just putting people on the water—I focus on teaching proper techniques, building confidence, and creating memorable experiences. The best part of my job is seeing the smiles on my clients’ faces when they land a fish they’ll never forget.
I’ve competed in many tournaments and was honored to earn Angler of the Year in 2020, with multiple first-place finishes along the way. While I no longer tournament fish, my focus today is on providing the highest quality service to my clients. I dedicate time to scouting different bodies of water, studying conditions, and tracking fish patterns so that when you step on the boat, or fishing from the bank we already have a plan for success. My commitment is simple: I want every client to catch fish and walk away with both skills and memories that last.
For me, fishing is more than a sport—it’s a way of life. It’s about staying active, healthy, and connected to nature while building the knowledge and techniques that make every trip rewarding. David Craig is a seasoned fishing instructor and professional river guide with years of experience teaching anglers how to master the water. Specializing in river systems, David has guided clients through everything from fast-moving currents to quiet backwaters, helping them succeed whether wading, or bank fishing. His calm, instructional style ensures every client gets the individualized guidance they need to grow in both skill and confidence.
One of David’s greatest strengths is his commitment to preparation. He consistently scouts and studies different rivers, carefully tracking water levels, seasonal changes, and fish patterns. This dedication allows him to stay one step ahead, giving clients an edge by knowing where the fish are and what they’re biting. His extensive river knowledge—built from years on the water—offers insights that go far beyond the basics, teaching anglers how to read conditions and adapt strategies for success.
As a competitive angler, David has proven his expertise on the tournament stage. He has earned multiple first-place finishes, broken records, and captured championship titles, consistently ranking among the top in regional events. His tournament experience, combined with his guiding background, gives his clients access to both professional-level techniques and practical, real-world fishing skills.
Today, David is focused on passing on his knowledge and passion to others. Whether helping a beginner land their first fish or coaching a seasoned angler toward new achievements, he provides the preparation, insight, and motivation that make every trip not only successful, but unforgettable.
Jake Carter- Fly Fishing Instructor

Fishing With Grant is excited to welcome Jake Carter as our newest instructor. With over a decade of fly fishing experience, Jake brings both skill and passion to every outing. Born and raised in Kettering, Ohio, he knows the Five Rivers and their tributaries inside and out, making him a great guide for anglers of all levels.
Before joining Fishing With Grant, Jake spent seven years with the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Park District, where he taught both archery and fly fishing classes. During that time, he discovered his passion for teaching and inspiring others to develop a love for the outdoors.
Jake’s fishing journey began at just five years old when he won a local fishing derby at Delco Park. Mentored by his father, Ken Carter—an angler with more than 30 years of experience—Jake grew up with a strong appreciation for fishing and the joy it can bring.
Now, as part of the Fishing With Grant team, Jake is eager to help clients create unforgettable experiences on the water. Whether it’s your first cast or the fish of a lifetime, Jake is dedicated to making every trip one to remember.

Do I need to be at a certain fishing level to train with Fishing With Grant?
No experience required! Fishing With Grant is designed for all skill levels:
First-Time Anglers – Never held a fishing rod? Perfect! We’ll start with the basics of casting, safety, and catching your first fish.
Kids & Families – We specialize in making fishing fun, safe, and exciting for younger anglers and family groups.
Intermediate Anglers – Already fish but want to improve? We’ll sharpen your casting, teach lure selection, and help you read the water like a pro.
Advanced/Tournament Anglers – Looking to level up your competitive game? We’ll fine-tune advanced strategies and techniques to give you an edge.
With FWG, you don’t need to be at a “certain level” to start — we meet you where you are and help you grow from there.

What tackle do I need for the classes?
We provide you with rod and reel with the option to buy if you like. If you want to use your own gear just let us know. If there is a certain type of lure you would like to fish with let us know. We can provide the ideal fishing platform for you. YOU WILL NEED YOUR OWN FISHING LICENSE.....

Do I need to be a certain age?
We do not have an age preference. 17 and under we would prefer to have a guardian attend or documentation from guardian allowing the child to participate in classes. Everyone must sign the waiver before any session or class. Click on liability waiver at the top of the page.

Alex's Story
My name is Alex Peters and I would like to share with you a little about myself and how I started my custom lure shop. I created Outta Line Lures in 2016 out of my garage. A short time later I created a group page, on Facebook, named Fishing River Smallmouthin Ohio.
I grew up in rural Ohio around Indian Lake. As a kid, I would fish with my grandfather at Lake Erie I would also fish farm ponds as I rode my four wheeler through the countryside
When I got older, I raised my own two beautiful daughters and often took them out on my kayak. Eventually, I decided to start custom painting fishing lures for my own personal use. After catching my first fish on a lure I painted myself, I was hooked!
My children encouraged me to put them on social media and sell them. As time passed, I grew my shop to what it is today. Camp Honor's Story
Camp Honor was started in 2024 by Matt Simmons, a career firefighter and United States Navy veteran. Through 28 years of serving his country and community, he has seen firsthand the effects of PTSD on those who serve their communities. In his experience, there have been minimal resources available to help with PTSD, and a stigma for those who seek traditional assistance. Through his own journey, Matt found that through his foundations of Faith, Family, and Hunting, he unintentionally built tools for resilience. He now wants to share those tools with those who have sacrificed so much.
OUR MISSION
We aim to reduce veteran and first responder suicide and the impact of trauma on our nation’s heroes by offering hunting and peer support as a means to start the healing process.
WHAT WE DO
We provide all-expense-paid hunting and fishing opportunities for veterans and first responders. During these hunts, the hunter will be accompanied by experienced guides who are trained in peer support. Each hunt will provide an opportunity and atmosphere for emotional healing.

We will also have the option of edited video that we can take during our classes. This is an additional $75. We also have group rates to accommodate more anglers. Just ask us. Boat Fishing- Fish any lake of your choice within a reasonable distance from Dayton Ohio. If you live further away we can negotiate pricing. I can provide food and drinks. We also supply the poles and lures you will need. I will also include the option of edited video that I take during our classes. It is an additional cost of $75. We can only take two anglers out at a time. Don't want to over crowd the boat and give you plenty of room to move around and we can be more hands on to each angler.
